We provide three different publishing models, Light Messages Traditional Publishing, Torchflame Hybrid Publishing, and Author Publishing. Our publishing standards, quality of the books, and their availability to retailers are the same, regardless of the path to publication. The main difference lies in roles, responsibilities, and the revenue model.
A Light Messages traditional publishing contract may be offered to an experienced author with a strong sales record of widely respected work.
We contract to purchase the rights to the book and to pay for those rights with royalties earned from the sale of the book. We underwrite all costs for the designing, printing, distribution, and marketing of the book.
The author's royalties for a traditionally published book are usually 25% of the net sales income. This means that the author receives 25% of what we earn on the sale of each book after we pay for printing. We pay company salaries and overhead from our share of the proceeds. We do not charge the author fees of any kind.
We only award a handfull of highly selective traditional publishing contracts each year. A number of those go to authors for whom we are already publishing. This option is limited but is always considered for every submission.
Hybrid publishing is a popular option for emerging authors because it ensures a quality book and provides experience, exposure, and marketing for selected manuscripts. It is a collaborative effort between Torchflame Books and the author, sharing skills, effort, and cost. The production process and quality are the same whether a book is a traditional or hybrid publication.
Hybrid publishing is like traditional publishing in all respects, except that authors share in the cost of publishing their book, as opposed to the publisher financing all costs. In exchange, much higher-than-industry-standard royalties of 60% to 75% are paid to the author.
Hybrid publishing is ideal for emerging authors of well-written manuscripts who do not yet have the experience or the sales base required for traditional publishing. Hybrid publishing is especially attractive financially for authors who participate in events where they will sell their books directly to readers. Hybrid publishing also makes it possible to publish meaningful books on niche topics which may not be initial blockbusters but will sell well over a longer period of time.
Author publishing provides emerging and creative authors with the skills required to produce a high-quality professional book published and marketed under the author’s brand or label.
Modern print on demand (POD) books and electronic ebooks are used by a large number of highly successful entrepreneurial independent authors. Under the model of Author Publisher, an author assumes the role and responsibilities of the publisher. We assist in this process by using our experience, tools, and resources to ensure the final book meets all industry standards and the author is given every opportunity to succeed.
We convert the author's manuscript into a professional, attractive book and guide the author in serving as their own publisher.
